In this study, children will be offered a chance to explore buildings first hand. Buildings vary in size, color, construction, material and location. Children will expand their knowledge and understanding of building materials and physical forces. They will also explore concepts in social studies related to jobs, shelter and the purposes of different structures.

INVESTIGATION: BUILDINGS

Week 1: What do the buildings in our neighborhood and other places look like?

Week 2: Who builds buildings and what tools do they use?

Week 3: What are buildings made out of and what makes them strong?

Week 4: What is special about our building?

Week 5: What happens inside buildings?

INVESTIGATION: PETS

In this study, children will explore many types of pets, investigate how they eat, what they need, how they communicate and learn about jobs related to caring for pets. Caring for a classroom pet creates an opportunity for children to see the direct benefits of their responsible actions when they work together with classmates to care for it. They will also explore concepts related to science, physical developments and social studies.
